Summer Sunflower's

So here it is, its February and its finally warm! Its 70 degrees here in Nashville today, which is amazing considering growing up in New York we were lucky to see over 15 degrees in February. I love going through some of my older hard drives and finding gems like the ones I am going to post below.  Sunflowers will always be one of my favorite flowers. They remind me of growing up on a farm, and how magical it was once they started blooming.  When my grandfather first came up with the idea of growing them we all thought he was insane ( literally I think we all debated sending him to the loony bin at some point..) The first year they finally bloomed it was like a yellow rainbow had flooded Turnpike Road, folks from all around the county came to take pictures of them.

Now its a perfectly normal situation in the summer time to be aware of people pulled over on the side of the road taking pictures of them. There has been  engagement photos in them, maternity images, seniors....everything you can image has had these glorious flowers in the background at some point.  Its one of my favorite back drops that I miss the most about living in New York.

The white Swans are another story, they always remind me of my grandparents, every year they come back and nest in the same spot on the same pond. Its always reminder that summer is finally here when we see them.  It may feel like summer here in Tennessee...but I know at home that spring is still so far away. So here is to all my New Yorkers.who are looking forward to that little bit of sunshine.
